》What is Narration/ Speech?
Ans: The reporting of a speaker's speech to another person is called a Narration/Speech.
》There are two types of Narration.
○Direct Narration.
○Indirect Narration.
Direct Narration: When a speech is quoted in the actual words used by the speaker, it is called the Direct Speech or Narration. It is placed inside the inverted(" ") comma. As like-
Mina said, " I am well ".
Indirect Narration: When the speech is reported in the form of a narrative, giving the substance or meaning of the words used by the speaker, without quoting his actual words, it is called the Indirect Narration or Speech. As like-
Mina said that she was well.
FEATURES OF DIRECT SPEECH
○The inner part of the inverted comma is called the Reported Speech and the outer part is called the Reporting verb or Saying verb.
○If the reporting verb is present / future tense, there is no change in the verb / tense of the reported speech. Only the person changes.
○The first person in the reported speech always varies according to the subject and person of the reporting verb.
○The second person in the reported speech always varies according to the object of the reporting verb.
